The ponytail palm
Indoors: Place your ponytail palm in a bright spot with numerous indirect sunlight. It can also tolerate direct sunlight.
Outdoors: When you’re growing it outdoor, ensure it gets full sun to partial shade.
Watering:Water sparingly. The bulbous base stores water, so it’s important to not overwater. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings.
Soil:Use a well-draining soil mix, such as a cactus or succulent mix. You’ll also mix regular potting soil with sand or perlite to toughen drainage.
Temperature:Ponytail palms prefer temperatures between 60°F and 80°F (15°C to 27°C). They are able to tolerate cooler temperatures down to 50°F (10°C) but will have to be safe from frost.
Fertilizer:Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer all the way through the growing season (spring and summer) about once a month.
