Native to warm-temperate, subtropical and tropical regions, the genus Hibiscus includes both woody shrubs and small trees in addition to herbaceous plants. The massive, trumpet-shaped flowers have five or more petals, and come in a range of colours, including white, pink, orange, red, yellow, purple, and multi-hued patterns.
Sunlight Hibiscus plants need a number of direct sunlight to bloom, but they are able to also grow without it. In northern locations, plant hibiscus in full sun, and within the south, prefer filtered sunlight.
Watering Water hibiscus plants when the highest inch of potting mix is dry. Water before the leaves wilt, as wilting plants are stressed out and have less energy to flower. In hot weather, water hibiscus plants generously.
Soil Hibiscus plants need consistently moist, fertile, and loamy soil with good drainage.
