Growing Sweet Alyssum from seeds is a lot less expensive than purchasing flats of seedlings each and every year. It’s a type of plants where you don’t want to buy just one! This old-time favorite produces dainty honey-scented flowers all over the growing season. The trailing habit is well-suited for containers, hanging baskets, and garden beds. Highly attracts butterflies and bees and is a pollinator magnet- Birds find it irresistible too! They are able to tolerate full sun and partial shade. But perform best in full sun.
Start alyssum seeds indoors several weeks before the last frost date, and transplant outdoors once the seedlings are sturdy. Or, plant the seeds outdoors in spring when the danger of frost is past.
Sunlight will lend a hand the seeds germinate, so keep them uncovered. Keep the soil moist until the seeds germinate—about 7 to 20 days after planting.
